Thiruvasagam

You will feel like flying when you listen to some music.

Infact I was flying while listening to "Thiruvasagam" musical album composed & orchestrated by Ilaiyaraaja (numerologically correct...otherwise it is ilayaraja)

After reading more on the pre-launch reports in Kumudam and Vikatan, I was anxious to get a copy soon. July 2nd was the day the album was released. That was the day I am travelling and my flight was at 8 pm, Bangalore.

I was not sure whether it will be released on the same day all over as in Chennai. That's a saturday, I was busy doing last minute shopping and other settlements. 11.30 AM, I was in Music World, Brigade road. They said, Sir, stocks will reach here only in the afternoon. damn it. I thought I will not be lucky to get it. I haven't packed my baggage so far. So I have to be at home atleast at 3 pm to catch the flight. It was last minute madness. Went to Hutch shop in Jayanagar 2.30pm to cancel my subscription. And there I saw Calypso. I had this bad experience with Calypso, whatever Cassette/CDs I bought there all broke or skip. So I avoid buying there. I saw posters of "Thiruvasagam" over all their glasses. This is it! I cannot miss this and decided to try my luck and grabbed my copy.

Reached home, packed my bags, pulled my unused CD walkman from the hidden shelves and rushed to the airport. After landing in mumbai and resting in the lounge after the security I slided the CD into walkman. NAaah! it is not working. I didn't know what was the problem. My curse with Calypso played again. Wondering for 15 minutes what to do.

Suddenly it flashed my mind to check the battery power.
Ha.. Haa.. battery itself is not there. I cannot wait for another damn 9 hours to locate a battery shop. I went to the some shop inside the terminal and the battery cost was double. Actually I was prepared to buy "Vicks" inhaler after my first experince that anything you buy is charged twice the MRP. This time it should be the battery.. Ok!

I bought it. I was hungry enough to listen to the tracks. Then the announcement came on "security and boarding". Run again.

I finally settled in the seat and pulled my walkman. Ilaiyaraaja told in an interview "thiruvasagam" is altogether a different treat. I was wondering how it will be. will it be same like the "othuvar" version? or ilaiyaraja's pathos kind?. It cannot be a duet. or some "dandankka" or boring with straight flat notes or going to put you into emotional coaster?

My fear was that album will be a fluke, will not work with the masses and a sure disaster. When I started listening, my fears were disappeared and now I know this album will be a hit.

I was listening to the tracks repeatedly everyhour, while waiting for connections except going to the loo's.

The album is amazing. You need to hear more than once to just cross-over of ilaiyaraaja. What does that mean? Read the review here in the following link.
